Rocky Mountain High

Kelsey and I have decided to move to Boulder, Colorado. I got a great job offer there that I couldn't turn down. I'm really excited about the prospects there, and I think it will be a great opportunity for not only me, but for us.

Obviously, neither one of us is crazy about leaving Austin. This is where we want to be, but it just didn't seem to work out that way for now.

It's not Austin that we'll miss, specifically. It's all of our great friends that we've been blessed to meet and know since moving here six years ago.

I never set out to leave. I wanted to find an opportunity that was not only good for me, but for my wife, and most most importantly, that little kid of mine, Henry. I want to put him in the best position possible in life (without spoiling him), and to do that, I have to grow in my career and accept positive change. The right opportunity just happened to take us to Colorado.

I'm sure we'll have more to say later, but that's the gist of it for now. Very bittersweet times for us.

Note: I am NOT going to start listening to John Denver. He's great and all, but sitting on top of a mountain at sunrise, listening to "Sunshine on my Shouders" is not in the plan. Drinking beer, eating BBQ and listening to "Wanted: the Outlaws" six times in a row still is.

cuz

They share a love of Cheerios and the Red Sox.

Dad's Note: To correct the record, Henry is a Cincinnati Reds fan, but will not hesitate to participate in an absolutely adorable photo-op.

Round On The ends and hi in the middle

Erin graduated from college a few weeks ago, so we went up to Ohio to celebrate and get in some much needed family time. It is now all a blur of Skyline chili, wii bowling tournaments, Greaters ice cream, biking, duck feeding, tractor riding (Henry), and beer drinking on the patio (not Henry). It was Middleamericarriffic. The only thing missing was the Boston Althoff contingent, a.k.a., Uncle Tim and Aunt Alcy.

Thanks to Mamaw and Poppy for letting us take over the house and for providing all of the food, beds, books and toys we could ever need. And cake. Let's not forget the cake. We had such a good time.

WE LIKE THE NOSE

So Henry has had a bit of a nose obsession lately. He has decided that the best ice breaker when encountering a stranger is to shove the old pointer way up as far as it goes (he is so much like is daddy). This went over smashingly on the plane ride when we went up to Ohio. The passenger seated behind us seemed particularly impressed when he pulled out the finger and ran it across her cheek in an attempt to venture into her left nostril.

The other night, he woke up crying. We have been really trying to not pick him up at night and instead pat his back or sit next to his crib until he settles. This time, he was not calming down and kept reaching through the bars of the crib, hand in full point position to insert his finger into my nose. Everytime I tried to pull away he became hysterical, so up my nasal cavity it remained until he started snoring.

Later that evening when Greg had a hard time falling asleep, I declined his request to do the same.

Looking forward

It is 3:16 in the afternoon.

I am looking forward to going home, because lately, when I get home from work, Henry sorta freaks out, grinning and squeaking when I walk in the door. It's really nice.

Happy Mother's Day (part deux)

These would be excellent Mothers' Day images, if not for the fact that they were taken about a month later.
